Global changes such as globalization, individualization, and pluralization, have put religions under pressure. Fundamentalist groups develop, internal conflicts intensify, and the differences between professed belief and actions shake credibility. On the other hand, religions have the potential to offer that which humankind needs to face the world’s current challenges. What makes religion sustainable? How can they be ‘renovated?’ With a special focus on Christianity, the social ethicist Gerhard Kruip attempts to answer these questions.
