Anna Huxel

Anna Huxel's life and work are dedicated to the search for truth. Her paintings address the questions "Who am I?" and "Where am I going?" This results in colour-intensive, large-format works that at first glance seem strangely representational, but are actually a combination of figurative and abstract elements. Thus her pictures have an unusual intensity and fascinate viewers, who are taken on a journey into the in-between of matter and spirituality, of naturalness and artificiality, of mechanism and organism. In "Sprungbrett" (“Diving Board”) or "Wasserläuferin" (“Water Skater”), for example, an oversized life belt in bright red and white dominates the image. The human figure in it remains recognisable, but blurred, out of focus, the surroundings uncertain. How much safety does the life belt really offer in the face of uncertainty? On closer inspection, a second, quite humorous message is conveyed. If the "Water Skater" were only to turn around, she would see the green boat from which she is moving away. But will she?
